BLOG

Threadfellows is now a member of 1% for the Planet, a global network of businesses, nonprofits and individuals working together for a healthy planet. Along with this alliance of other businesses that understand the necessity of protecting the environment, we’re committed to giving 1% of our net revenue to fund eco-friendly, earth-conscious causes and organizations around the globe.

We wanted to dedicate this blog post to crushing on this amazing organization and the significant impact they’re making on our planet.

1% FOR THE PLANET

1% for the Planet connects dollars with doers by linking businesses, individuals, and nonprofits to help create partnerships that protect the planet. They collaborate with individual and business members to identify environmental organizations that will make the greatest impact and align with a company’s giving goals. They certify that every dollar contributed goes to a vetted, trusted nonprofit. 1% for the Planet members have given tens of millions of dollars to the environment, and their nonprofit partners are doing the hard work of restoring our planet for the future. Their goal is to not only direct giving toward environmental causes but to increase the overall amount of global dollars going to help protect the planet.

1% for the Planet was started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard (founder of Patagonia) and Craig Mathews (founder of Blue Ribbon Flies). Both successful entrepreneurs, they recognized the power of collective action to protect the environment. Today, businesses and individuals continue to make the 1% for the Planet commitment, creating greater impact every year.

WHY NOW?

We can’t wait to address global issues impacting our planet. According to the organization’s website, the time is now. From their website, “The evidence is overwhelming: climate change is an imminent threat, our food systems are increasingly stressed, and our lands, waters, and species are threatened like never before. If we don’t act now, the viability of our planet and our quality of life – to say nothing of the health of our economy – face an existential threat.

“Unfortunately, the global community is falling far short of meeting this challenge. Currently, only three percent of philanthropic giving in the U.S. goes to environmental causes; and only three percent of this giving comes from the business community. The global community has a responsibility and opportunity to step up for the planet and drive positive change.

“It’s not easy to know where and how to put your dollars to work. Most businesses and individuals don’t have the expertise to develop their own environmental giving strategies, and few have the time or resources to sort through the dizzying array of options for how to make a difference. By joining 1% for the Planet, you leave that work to us. We save you time and money and maximize the impact of your giving by connecting you to our trusted nonprofit partners.

THE POWER OF COLLECTIVE IMPACT

1% for the Planet provides the benefit of the power of collective impact. Maybe you can’t save the world on your own (maybe). But you can join with the collective power of organizations and individuals throughout the world all working together toward the common goal of addressing critical issues. 1% for the Planet represents an efficient and powerful way for your dollars to have a direct, positive impact on our planet.

At Threadfellows, we agree with the organization’s own website, “There are a lot of options for businesses and individuals when it comes to giving to the environment. What sets 1% for the Planet apart is our ability to fuel greater collective impact through our proven network approach.”

We’re thrilled to be a part of this incredible organization. We hope you’re thrilled that out of every dollar you spend with Threadfellows, 1% goes straight back to making this world a better place to live.
